Child, Youth & Vulnerable Adult Policy Zoom Training
This training will be led by Suzanne Elkins, a member of SMRT who contributed to the writing of this policy, and Debbie Haley, Executive Assistant for Ministry support. The meeting will be about 45 min., and we are requesting that at least two people from each NWC attend this meeting. This training will be specifically about PLR’s Child, Youth and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy, the procedures in place for administering a ministry to children, and how to report abuse and neglect out from your NWC and the presbytery.
We recommend that at least TWO MEMBERS of each NWC attend this training. To register, click here.
In addition, the presbytery is requesting that every NWC send in a signed letter of acknowledgement that your NWC has received and adopted this policy for your faith community. Please bring this policy to your leadership team for their approval as soon as possible. Then, sign and return this letter with the date, name of your NWC and the two designated signatures no later than September 1, 2023. (For a template letter of acknowledgement for your leadership team, click here.)
If your NWC does not currently have a ministry to children, this policy still applies to your faith community since it is under the umbrella of PLR; however, you will not be required to attend to the extra mandated reporter training or Livescan screening. We are requesting that the policy itself be approved by your New Worshiping Community at this time. This way, if ever you are in a situation where children or vulnerable adults are on your campus, you are equipped for this ministry.
If you have any questions about the policy, the upcoming training on August 3rd or the signing of the acknowledgement letter, please do not hesitate to Debbie Haley.
