For a few short, but full days, our presbytery’s teaching elders gathered for a time of retreat and were led by Rev. David Beary on the topic, Confessing Christ Together:

Ministers of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) are distinguished from those ordained to serve Jesus in other churches by their common commitment to a Book of Confessions. But what exactly does this commitment entail? Why do we have a collection of doctrinal standards (as opposed to just one)? What does it mean to “subscribe” to these standards? And why should we bother to engage the texts contained in our Book of Confessions when the pastoral contexts of their various authors seem so different from our own? The annual pastors retreat will provide an invaluable opportunity to reflect on these and other questions pertaining to our theological unity as ministers of the gospel, using the Scots Confession of 1560 as a test case. Come join us as we consider together what it means to “be instructed . . . led . . . [and] continually guided by our confessions” (W-4.0404cd)!

The retreat leaders have graciously provided us with their PowerPoint slides, PDF documents, and audio files, so that we can all benefit from their wisdom and content.
