Ordained as a teaching elder in 1982, The Rev. Dr. Steven M. Marsh has served churches in California, Pennsylvania, Kansas, and Oklahoma as well as Assistant Professor of Religious and Philosophical Studies, Dean of Chapel and Vice-President for Spiritual Formation at Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas.
Steve’s passion for ministry is rooted in the person and purpose of Jesus Christ and bridging the gap between personal faith and social engagement. Steve responded to God’s regenerative work in his life by saying “yes” to Jesus as Savior and Lord during seventh grade Communicants Class. His Pastor recognized potential for ministry and helped Steve discern God’s call to ordained ministry. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from California State University, Fresno, Steve began his theological studies at Fuller Theological Seminary where he received his Master of Divinity degree. The final year of his Master of Divinity was completed at Princeton Theological Seminary. Steve’s quest for knowledge continued at San Francisco Theological Seminary, culminating in a Doctor of Ministry degree. Most recently he completed a Master of Philosophy degree at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Steve’s academic pursuits have focused on historical theology, Reformed theology and John Calvin’s soteriology.
Steve has served as a member and moderator of various Presbytery committees. Steve also served as Moderator of the Presbytery of Southern Kansas in 2010. In addition, he is an active member of the Rotary Club of Mission Viejo.
Steve’s life and ministry demonstrate a deep commitment to evangelism (proclamation and justice) is seen in his commitment of remembering, telling and living the way of Jesus.
Steve’s hobbies include golf, baseball card collecting, exercising and reading. He is joined by his wife, Janet, who has been a source of strength and blessing. They have journeyed together through a married life full of joys and challenges. Janet has always found her own place in ministry. She enjoys golf, water aerobics, sewing and painting.
Steve and Janet have three children and six grandchildren.
