Two FundamentalsOpen Space runs on two fundamentals: passion and responsibility. Passion engages the people in the room. Responsibility ensures things get done.
Whoever comes is the right people
Open Space is a simple way to run meetings that are more productive because it lacks structure and welcomes surprises.
We recognized that more ideas were being generated during informal conversations in the hallways than in the formal presentations in the meeting rooms.
The question became: what are the spaces that lead to higher rates of creativity and innovation?
What we found was that “chance favors the connected mind.” In other words, the more ways we find to connect, to have participants share their hunches, the more likely we were to discover new and effective ways of being the church.
So along with our business meeting we offer two open space sessions at our quarterly Presbytery Gatherings.
