Speaker:

Theresa Cho is a co-pastor at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in San Francisco. She is currently working on her Doctorate of Ministry that focuses on leading change in congregations using intergenerational ministry as a framework of how congregations can exist as a diverse faith community. She is a west coaster through and through, meaning she loves seafood, 60 degree weather, and the laid back nature. When she is not pastoring, she is volunteering as a baby cuddler in the neonatal ICU, subverting her husband’s diet with baked goods, cheering on her son at soccer games, being her daughter’s biggest fan, and dutifully obeying her dog’s daily demands of being walked, petted, and adored.

You can learn more about Theresa and check out her writing at  www.theresaecho.com..

Workshops:

1. A Conversation about Growing Young, by Rev. Steve Wright, St. Peter’s By-the-Sea Presbyterian Church

Every church needs young people even as young people need a thriving church. But where do we start if the nursery has been empty for 10 years or more? As the pastor of a church seeking to develop ministry to children and youth from scratch, I’ve been helped by a project coming out of Fuller Seminary called “Growing Young.” Come and learn about six essential strategies to help young people discover and love your church.

2. Talk Saves Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention, by Nancy Cooper, board member of the Orange County chapter of American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

“Talk Saves Lives”  is a community-based presentation that covers the general scope of suicide, the research on prevention, and what people can do to fight suicide. Attendees will learn the risk and warning signs of suicide, and how together, we can help prevent it. Click here. Please encourage and invite youth leaders to attend this important presentation.

3. Dispelling the Myth of Church Planting, Rev. Martin Garcia

We are in the midst of a great missionary movement in North America, as many pastors, denominations, local churches, and others are heeding the call to plant new churches. However, many myths become an obstacle to start new congregations.  Come to this workshop and find out which are the most common myths about church planting.

4. An Introduction to The Enneagram, Rev. Jonas Hayes, Senior Pastor, Grace First Presbyterian Church, Long Beach, CA

What is The Enneagram? In preparation for Suzanne Stabile’s Know Your Number Workshop at Grace First on Feb. 22-23, 2019, Rev. Jonas Hayes will offer a primer on The Enneagram and how he has integrated it into his ministry through pastoral care and  working effectively with a collaborative team. Rev. Jonas Hayes is a certified Enneagram Instructor trained by Clarence Thomson.

5. Chaplaincy at LAC+USC: Stories from the Bedside , Facilitator: Rev Elizabeth Gibbs Zehnder, Presby. Staff Chaplain at LAC+USC Medical Center

Location: Nursery

LAC+USC is the safety net hospital for our region. This means that patients are often experiencing homelessness and other economic vulnerabilities in addition to their physical illness. Come to this workshop to learn what God is doing among the patients at Los Angeles County Hospital.
