Then “think like a filmmaker!” Internationally-renowned worship designer and teacher, Dr. Marcia McFee, will give you her time-tested strategies for creating and sustaining sensory-rich worship that offers unforgettable messages each and every week for churches of any size, worship style and budget. She will share how insights from filmmakers: art directors, screenwriters, composers, cinematographers and directors, have helped her hone theories and practices that attract and ignite volunteers as they gain skills for every worship art. Applying these lessons to vital communication of the Greatest-Story-Ever-Told has inspired clergy, staff and volunteers for their work in McFee’s 25 years of worship consulting, while invigorating congregation’s excitement for Sunday mornings. This session will help you learn ways to create more deeply meaningful worship for sanctuary and hybrid contexts.

Dr. Marcia McFee is a professor, worship designer, author, preacher and ritual artist. Drawing on a first career in professional dance and musical theater and equipped with a Master’s in Theology and a PhD in Liturgical Studies, she understands the role of any worship artist in the church as that of creating extraordinary portals through which communities journey with the Spirit. The task is at once deeply theological and wonderfully artistic. Connecting worship professionals and volunteers to their passion and depth of spiritual leadership is her aim in teaching and consulting as well as equipping them with skills to carry this out. She travels extensively, teaching and holding worship planning retreats (www.marciamcfee.com). Dr. McFee has designed and led worship for regional, national and international gatherings of several denominations (UMC, UCC, PCUSA, MCC) for the last 25 years. She is the creator and visionary of the Worship Design Studio (www.worshipdesignstudio.com), an online experience of coaching, education, inspiration and a design application that currently serves over 1000 congregations. She is the author of the best-selling book, Think Like a Filmmaker: Sensory-Rich Worship Design for Unforgettable Messages; The Worship Workshop; and, as an avid skier, she wrote Spiritual Adventures in the Snow: Skiing and Snowboarding as Renewal for Your Soul.
