Diversity & Inclusion Summit
July 8 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Harbor Regional Center, South Coast Interfaith Council and the Long Beach Ministers Alliance cordially invite you to our first time event – “An Interfaith Summit on Diversity & Inclusion.” Powerful and moving stories will be shared of how congregations and organizations have identified needs in their community and how they effectively offered care and compassion, particularly to those who are marginalized. The summit will include a panel discussion with leaders speaking from diverse theological, political, and cultural backgrounds. This event will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 1:00 – 4:00PM in the Saul Ministry Center at Grace First Presbyterian Church, located at 3955 N. Studebaker Road, Long Beach, CA 90808.
The vision behind this Summit is to inspire area congregations and organizations to initiate new attitudes, programs, and community engagement that effectively welcomes all people. While our congregations strive to be welcoming, all too often there are barriers that can exclude people. Our prayer is that participants will depart with a new awareness of how to be more inclusive, and begin one new initiative. Rather than focusing on one or two issues of inclusion, the goal of this Summit is to reflect upon and share ideas about numerous topics of inclusion including, but not limited to mental health, adoption, disabilities, cultural awareness, sexuality, and homelessness.
The program for the afternoon will be as follows:
