A Different Kind of Preaching Event

SCORRE Conference
May 1-4, 2017

San Clemente Presbyterian Church

Candie-Blankman-preaching-2016For over 30 years I have been involved with the SCORRE Conference for public speaking and preaching. It is the parent organization to the two-day Spanish Conference we hosted in November here at San Clemente Presbyterian Church. I am thrilled because for the first time the full four-day conference will be right here in Southern California. (The second Spanish SCORRE Conference will be held May 5-6.) This location significantly decreases the cost for the conference for Presbytery of Los Ranchos pastors. The Holiday Inn just down the street is giving us a great rate, so for those that want to, they can make arrangements to stay a block away.

The SCORRE Conference is the single most formative resource for my preaching and teaching. Even as a coach for 30 years, every year I continue to be challenged in clarity and creativity. And, though it is not explicitly a Christian conference, all the staff are faith-based and most have been or are involved in ministry of some sort. Participants come from an amazing array of vocations bringing incredible experience and creativity to the conference. Unlike other conferences where you sit in a large auditorium and go home with a notebook, the SCORRE Conference gives you concentrated personal attention and coaching. Each evening you will have the opportunity to practice your skills in a small group and get immediate feedback.

Dr. Juan-Daniel Espitia, Solana Beach Presbyterian Church said, “SCORRE is the missing link between a good exegesis and a polished homiletic.” Many very experienced pastors over the years have said the same. Our own Alfredo Delgado, Tobin Wilson, and Karen Claassen have attended the conference in the last three years. You can ask them about their experience. You can check out our video. The higher cost of the conference is well worth the price because of the personal attention you will receive. And, SCORRE is offering a special discount for PLR. You go directly to the registration page and it will automatically give you a $300 discount!

It would be great fun to have a pastor’s group from PLR who attend the conference and then meet regularly to encourage and challenge one another to excellence and creativity in our preaching and teaching. Who’s in?
