Louis Zamperini, a former American Olympic distance runner and World War II prisoner of war survivor, blessed St. Andrews on May 29, for all three Sunday services. During the services, Rev. Dr. Richard Kannwischer talked with him about his inspirational life story and then after each service, there was a meet and greet time with Zamperini, and all Veterans posed for a picture.
Laura Hillenbrand, author of Seabiscuit: An American Legend, has written a biography of Zamperini. The book, titled Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption, was published by Random House in 2010. It has gone to number one on the New York Times bestseller list. It was named the top book of 2010 by Time.
